Posted on

Pregnancy comes with many symptoms as your body changes to accommodate and nourish the new life that is growing inside you. One change that you may notice is that your feet may become swollen more often. This can make walking difficult and it can also makes your feet look unattractive. The good news is there are several ways in which you can reduce the swelling in your feet naturally.

Drink Water

It may seem as if the last thing you should be doing when you have swollen feet is to drink lots of water but drinking water is exactly what you should be doing. When you are dehydrated your kidneys hold on to water in an effort to make sure your body has enough water. Drinking more water sends a signal to your kidneys that it needs to release any excess fluid and this in turn will reduce swelling in the feet. Keep a bottle of water with you at all times and drink liberally.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Swelling in the legs during pregnancy is often caused by an imbalance in the electrolytes in your body. You can help to balance your electrolytes by mixing two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar into a cup of water. Apple cider vinegar is loaded with potassium and this mineral is very good at balancing electrolytes.

Use A Skin Brush

A skin brush can be used to improve circulation throughout the body and reduce the swelling in your feet. Begin by brushing your feet and move upwards onto your leg, brushing towards your heart. Once you have finish that, begin brushing your hand and then move upwards on your arm, brushing towards your heart. Brushing like this twice a day will help blood to circulate through your lymphatic system and reduce swelling.

Stay Active

Get your blood circulating by not sitting or standing for extended periods of time. If you work behind a desk try to stand sometimes while working or get away from the desk and go for a short walk. Once you feel tired go back and sit down again. It would also be good if you elevate your feet when you sit to get better circulation to the feet and legs to prevent swelling. When you are at home you should always elevate your feet above your heart to increase blood flow and reduce swelling.
