How To Determine If You Have Rhinitis

Posted on

It is important to make sure that you are taking the time to discover if you have rhinitis, or hay fever, so you can begin to work out the best list of treatments to help you feel better.

Recognizing The Symptoms

One of the first things that you are going to want to do is to take a little time to write down a list of all of the symptoms that you have been experiencing. If possible, you will want to try to recall when you have the most trouble with the various symptoms. For example, do some only occur when you are in your home or when you are outside in your yard? Do some of your symptoms only occur during certain seasons?

Some of the symptoms of rhinitis include having an itchy nose, eyes, and the inside of the mouth. A lot of sneezing and having a runny nose that just will not stop can also be symptoms of rhinitis. On the other hand, you may notice that at times you find yourself suffering from a very congested nose that you have trouble getting to clear up.

Getting A Diagnosis

You will want to schedule an appointment with an allergist or your primary care physician in order to discuss the symptoms that you have been having. You can express your concern that it may be rhinitis, but the doctor will still need to run several allergy tests in order to confirm the diagnosis. After all, it is vital that you learn just what it is that you are allergic to, as there are other allergens that can cause symptoms that mimic those caused by rhinitis. In order to obtain the most accurate diagnosis, your doctor may perform a series of skin and blood tests.

It is not uncommon to find that you may have not only rhinitis, but other allergies as well. Once you have a proper diagnosis, you will then be given advice for thorough treatment. Not only will you need to avoid the places or situations that cause you the most discomfort, but you may be required to take daily medication in order to prevent yourself from becoming too distressed from the allergies. Just make sure that you are doing your best to find the most qualified specialist to diagnose and then treat and allergies that you have.
